Vancouver → Harrison Hot Springs (2) → Halcyon Hot Springs (2) → Radium Hot Springs (3) → Banff (1) → Calgary (1)
Wind through Canada’s alpine heartlands on a road trip of peaks and pools. From Harrison’s lakeside springs to Halcyon’s mountain sanctuary, Radium’s canyon baths, and Banff’s alpine classics, each stop blends hot mineral soaks with big mountain scenery and cosy lodge living
Harrison Hot Springs
On the shores of Harrison Lake, this spa town has been a favourite retreat since the 19th century. Its mineral waters flow into public pools and elegant resort baths, offering warmth with views of mountains and forest. The lake itself invites boating, kayaking, and summer swimming, while nearby hiking trails reveal waterfalls and eagles. Local Indigenous culture adds depth to the landscape, with stories tied to the water and surrounding peaks. Harrison feels timeless and restorative — a place where community, wellness, and nature meet.
Calgary
Calgary blends cowboy heritage with modern energy, a city of glass towers set against the backdrop of the Rockies. Each July, the Calgary Stampede celebrates its frontier spirit, while year-round the city thrives on a lively food, music, and arts scene. Wellness here comes from proximity — mountain air, wide skies, and quick access to thermal springs and national parks just beyond. Calgary is both cosmopolitan and outdoorsy, a launchpad where the prairies meet the peaks.
Vancouver
Cradled between mountains and ocean, Vancouver is a city where nature and urban life flow together. Seawall paths wrap around the harbour, cyclists trace routes through Stanley Park, and beaches sit just minutes from downtown towers. The city’s food scene is vibrant — from dim sum and sushi to farm-to-table dining — while markets and galleries reflect its multicultural character. Wellness weaves into daily rhythm here, with coastal air, mountain trails, and nearby thermal springs inviting renewal. Vancouver feels fresh, dynamic, and deeply connected to its setting.
Radium Hot Springs
At the entrance to Kootenay National Park, Radium Hot Springs is famed for its vast open-air mineral pool set beneath towering cliffs. The water is naturally heated and rich in minerals, easing muscles after days of hiking, cycling, or winter skiing. The village itself is welcoming, with small inns and wildlife often wandering its streets. Surrounded by canyons, rivers, and alpine passes, Radium is both invigorating and restful — a gateway where Rocky Mountain adventure meets warm-water renewal.
Halcyon Hot Springs
Set on the banks of Arrow Lake in British Columbia’s Kootenays, Halcyon Hot Springs combines dramatic scenery with therapeutic waters. Modern pools overlook snow-tipped mountains, while rustic trails and lakefront cabins bring calm between soaks. The springs were long known for their healing properties, and today the retreat continues that legacy with mineral-rich pools, cold plunges, and serene forest surroundings. Halcyon is quiet and elemental, a place where mountains and water define the rhythm of rest.
Banff
Nestled within a national park of soaring peaks and turquoise lakes, Banff is Canada’s alpine jewel. The town’s historic Upper Hot Springs continue a tradition of mountain bathing, with steaming pools overlooking the surrounding ranges. Trails lead to emerald valleys and glaciers, while the town itself hums with cafés, galleries, and mountain lodges. Wildlife sightings — elk, bears, bighorn sheep — remind visitors of the wilderness just beyond the streets. Banff is dramatic and restorative, a rare balance of wild beauty and timeless spa culture.
Day 1. Arrival in Vancouver & Drive to Harrison Hot Springs
Arrive in Vancouver and collect your rental car for the journey east. Drive through the Fraser Valley into the Coast Mountains, arriving in the lakeside village of Harrison Hot Springs. After checking into the resort, stretch your legs with a stroll along the misty lakeshore or into the nearby forest trails. As evening falls, soak in the warm waters of the hotel’s five hot spring pools while the sun sets over Harrison Lake.
Day 2. Hike, Paddle & Soak in Harrison
Start the day with a forested hike to Sandy Cove or Whippoorwill Point, where the lake glistens through cedar-lined paths. Later, rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the calm waters of Harrison Lake at your own pace. Unwind back at the resort’s pools and enjoy a laid-back dinner in the village.
Day 3. Scenic Drive to the Kootenays
Set out on a full-day road trip through the lush Okanagan Valley and into the Selkirk Mountains. Stop in Kelowna for lunch on a sunny patio, or stretch your legs with a lakeside walk. By late afternoon, arrive at Halcyon Hot Springs Resort, nestled on a bluff above Arrow Lake. As dusk settles, slip into the mineral-rich pools with views of snowy peaks across the water.
Day 4. Nature & Soaking in Halcyon
Ease into the rhythm of lake life. Take a short morning drive to Nakusp for a paddle on Arrow Lake or explore the Kuskanax Creek Trail, a gentle loop over footbridges and through forest glades. In the afternoon, return to Halcyon for more soaking, spa time, or simply reading on your cabin porch.
Day 5. Slow Morning & Drive to Radium via Revelstoke
Enjoy a peaceful morning soak before driving north through the Selkirks. Stop in Revelstoke National Park for a walk along the Giant Cedars Boardwalk or, in season, drive the Meadows in the Sky Parkway. Arrive in Radium Hot Springs by evening and ease into the natural mineral pools sat at the foot of red canyon walls.
Day 6. Trails, Wildlife & Hot Springs in Kootenay
Today, explore Kootenay National Park. Hike the Juniper Trail or Sinclair Canyon, keeping an eye out for bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Spend your afternoon soaking in the Radium pools again, this time under the open sky or at sunset.
Day 7. Free Day in Radium or Day Trip to Invermere
Enjoy a slower day in Radium. Visit a local spa, take a gentle forest walk, or browse artisan shops and cafés in nearby Invermere. Those craving more activity can paddle on Lake Windermere or rent bikes for a scenic lakeside ride.
Day 8. Banff’s Peaks & Alpine Charm
Drive into Banff National Park (about 1.5 hrs). Stop for a short hike at Tunnel Mountain or take the gondola up Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views of the Bow Valley. Explore Banff town at leisure — boutiques, cafés, and the Whyte Museum for a touch of mountain culture. Overnight in Banff at a cosy alpine lodge or spa hotel.
Day 9. Banff Upper Hot Springs & Calgary
Begin your final morning with a soak at the Banff Upper Hot Springs, where vintage bathhouse charm meets sweeping alpine scenery. Afterward, enjoy brunch in town before making the short drive east to Calgary (1.5 hrs). Depending on your flight, you may have time for a stroll through Calgary’s downtown or along the Bow River Pathway. Overnight in Calgary.
Day 10. Departure
Transfer to Calgary Airport for your onward flight, carrying memories of glacier-fed valleys, steaming mineral pools, and the crisp alpine air of Canada’s Powder Highway.
