Italy
Tailor-Made Hot Spring Holidays
Where wellness meets world heritage
In Italy, natural springs steam beneath Roman ruins and Tuscan hillsides, like Saturnia and Bagni San Filippo where you can soak in warm, milky-blue pools surrounded by forest and travertine cascades. In southern France, the Pyrenees hide wild thermal rivers and Belle Époque spa towns, while Spain’s Galicia and Andalusia regions are home to ancient termas with Celtic and Moorish roots.
Portugal’s Azores archipelago bubbles with volcanic baths nestled in fern-covered calderas, while the Canary Islands pair ocean views with therapeutic geothermal pools. Across the region, spa towns are threaded with history; medieval abbeys, hilltop villages, and winding wine trails are never far from your next soak. This is bathing at a Mediterranean pace: long lunches, local wine, siestas, and sunset sessions in natural springs.

Saturnia
Perhaps the most iconic spring in Italy, Saturnia’s terraced pools cascade through Tuscany’s Maremma region, surrounded by rolling hills and cypress trees. Rich in sulphur and minerals, the turquoise waters are said to soothe skin and ease circulation. While the open-air falls are free to visit, nearby spa resorts offer exclusive access to thermal pools, mud treatments, and stylish accommodations. Saturnia is at once wild and refined, perfect for travellers seeking both authenticity and comfort.

Ischia
Off the coast of Naples, Ischia is a volcanic island famed for its natural hot springs, lush gardens, and glamorous wellness hotels. Thermal parks like Poseidon and Negombo pair multiple spring-fed pools with sea views, botanical walks, and hydrotherapy rituals. Beyond the spas, Ischia offers sun-drenched beaches, vineyards, and hilltop villages that gaze across the Bay of Naples. Wellness here flows effortlessly with dolce vita, a mix of luxury, leisure, and local culture.

Bagno Vignoni
Unique among Italy’s spa towns, Bagno Vignoni’s central piazza is a thermal pool, steaming where people once gathered for centuries. Today, boutique hotels and bathhouses channel the waters into private pools and spa suites, offering a quiet retreat among the hills of Val d’Orcia. Surrounded by vineyards, medieval castles, and timeless Tuscan scenery, Bagno Vignoni is deeply atmospheric, a blend of wellness and history unlike anywhere else.

Montecatini Terme
A jewel of Belle Époque spa culture, Montecatini Terme has been welcoming bathers since the 16th century. Grand colonnades, marble pavilions, and landscaped gardens frame mineral baths and wellness centres. Once frequented by artists and aristocrats, today Montecatini combines historic architecture with modern spa treatments and a lively Tuscan town. It’s a perfect base for combining culture, gastronomy, and bathing traditions in one elegant destination.

Bormio
High in the Italian Alps, Bormio offers a different side of Italy’s bathing heritage — hot springs surrounded by snow peaks. Roman baths here have been flowing for over 2,000 years, and today modern spa complexes such as QC Terme Bormio offer outdoor pools with dramatic mountain views. In winter, bathers alternate between skiing and soaking; in summer, alpine hikes lead to riverside springs. Bormio is pure wellness in an alpine setting, restorative in every season.

“We didn’t want a typical honeymoon, and Cate completely got that. She planned the perfect mix of rainforest lodges, hot springs in Arenal, and downtime on the Nicoya Peninsula. Soaking in the thermal river near Rincón de la Vieja was a dream, totally wild and peaceful. The whole trip felt like us, adventurous, calm, and deeply restorative.”
— Lara & Jade, London
“We’d never thought to plan a trip around hot springs, but now we’re converts! Every stop had its own vibe with sleek spa hotels mixed in with natural river pools surrounded by wildflowers. Cate’s passion for bathing traditions came through in every detail. We slowed down, and we truly felt good.”
— Richard & Emma H., Bristol
“I’ve travelled to Japan before, but this was different, more meaningful. Cate understood exactly what I was looking for and created a trip that felt deeply personal. From tiny riverside onsens to forest hikes ending in cedar-scented springs, it was everything I didn’t know I needed. I came back grounded, recharged, and already dreaming about the next one.”
— Sophie M., UK
