Steam, Sea & Sicilian Soul
10 Nights/ 11 Days
From £4,190 per person*
Palermo (2) → Sciacca/Coastal Thalasso (2) → Pantelleria (3) → Etna/Taormina (3)
From Palermo’s Art Nouveau spa heritage to Sciacca’s volcanic thalassotherapy pools, Pantelleria’s cave saunas, and the Etna foothills’ vineyard retreats, this 10-day journey blends thermal indulgence with island culture, food, and timeless landscapes.
Palermo
Sicily’s capital is a city of layers, Arab domes, Norman mosaics, and baroque palaces all jostle beside lively markets. In Ballarò and Vucciria, the air is thick with the scent of grilled seafood, citrus, and spices that recall centuries of trade. The city feels both chaotic and captivating, where grand theatres stand over narrow alleys filled with scooters and street vendors. Between churches, museums, and golden beaches just beyond, Palermo is as much about energy as it is history, a vibrant entry point to the island’s cultural and culinary soul.
Sciacca
Perched above the Mediterranean, Sciacca is a historic spa town whose hot springs and mud baths have been renowned since antiquity. Steam once rose from natural grottoes where Romans and Arabs bathed, and today spa resorts and pools continue that tradition. The town is also known for its fishing port, colourful ceramics, and lively carnival. Overlooking both sea and hills, Sciacca blends wellness with Sicilian rhythm — restorative, authentic, and deeply rooted in history.
Pantelleria
Closer to Tunisia than Sicily, Pantelleria is a volcanic island where fire and water shape the landscape. Natural hot springs bubble up along the coast, while ancient dammusi stone houses dot the hillsides. Lago di Venere, a crater lake fed by thermal waters, invites open-air soaks with views of vines and rugged cliffs. With its wild coastline, caper farms, and hidden coves, Pantelleria feels elemental and remote — an island where bathing and nature are inseparable.
Taormina
Set high above the Ionian Sea, Taormina is Sicily’s most iconic resort town, famed for its Greek theatre with Mount Etna as a backdrop. Cobbled streets wind past elegant cafés and boutiques, while terraces open to dazzling sea views. Beaches below, including Isola Bella, offer crystal waters and sunlit afternoons. Though not a spa town, Taormina’s wellness is in its setting: fresh air, Mediterranean ease, and the drama of volcano and sea combined. Romantic and refined, Taormina is the jewel of Sicily’s east coast.
Florence
Cradle of the Renaissance, Florence dazzles with its cathedral dome, Uffizi masterpieces, and Ponte Vecchio sunsets. Yet beyond its grand museums and frescoed chapels, the city also offers quieter pleasures — gardens scented with citrus, boutique artisans hammering leather or gold, and cafés where locals linger over espresso. As a finale to Tuscany’s thermal journey, Florence pairs cultural splendour with moments of repose, a fitting balance of body and spirit.
Day 1. Arrival in Palermo
Arrive in Palermo and meet your private driver for the short transfer to Villa Igiea (Rocco Forte), a Belle Époque landmark on the marina. Spend the afternoon at leisure with time for a spa wind-down. Evening stroll into the historic centre, where Baroque domes and lantern-lit alleys lead to a relaxed Sicilian dinner.
Day 2. Palermo & Monreale
Join a local guide to explore Palermo’s Arab-Norman cathedrals, bustling Ballarò Market, and intimate backstreets. Stop for cannoli and espresso before heading uphill to Monreale Cathedral, where golden mosaics shimmer with biblical scenes. Afternoon at leisure: return to the hotel spa, or wander the marina at sunset.
Alternative option: For travellers seeking early wellness immersion, a half-day drive west to the Segesta archaeological site and nearby hot spring pools (Terme Gorga) can be arranged, though these are rustic; we recommend them only as an optional cultural + bathing add-on.
Day 3. Segesta Temples & Marsala Salt Pans
Set off west with your driver. First, an insider’s guided tour of the Temple and Theatre of Segesta—ancient stone glowing in the morning sun. Continue to the Stagnone Reserve near Marsala, where seasonal saline pools allow a private salt-float session (operator-managed; subject to permits and season). After a vineyard lunch, travel south to Verdura Resort, your base for the next two nights. Sunset soak in its four-pool thalassotherapy circuit facing the sea.
Day 4. Verdura Thalassotherapy & Thermal Excursion
Ease into the day with Verdura’s world-class thalasso circuit: mineral-rich seawater pools at varied temperatures, ringed by gardens and sea air. Afternoon option: a drive inland to Terme Acqua Pia (Montevago), a geothermal park with steaming cascades and natural basins. Return for sunset aperitivi and fine dining at the resort.
Alternative option: Culture lovers may instead visit Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples—a UNESCO site of ancient ruins, easily paired with a lighter spa session back at Verdura.
Day 5. Fly to Pantelleria – Cala Gadir
Morning transfer to Palermo or Trapani airport; short flight to Pantelleria. Transfer to Sikelia Luxury Retreat, a collection of chic dammusi (lava-stone houses). At dusk, bathe in the stone-cut tubs of Cala Gadir, where steaming water meets the sea. Dinner features capers, citrus, and island wines.
Day 6. Specchio di Venere – Mud & Float
Visit the Mirror of Venus Lake, a volcanic crater glowing turquoise. Coat yourself in sulphur mud, then rinse in the warm shallows. The effect is both photogenic and rejuvenating. Afternoon winery stop for Passito di Pantelleria, followed by a lazy evening on your terrace.
Day 7. Pantelleria’s Grottos & Coastal Springs
Walk to the Grotta di Benikulà, a natural steam sauna with stone benches. Continue to Grotta di Sateria, where warm mineral water seeps into a rocky sea cove—linked by legend to Ulysses and Calypso. Optional private boat ride along the coast to reach Cala Nikà, where geothermal streams bubble at the sea’s edge (safe zones only).
Day 8. Return to Sicily – Etna Foothills
Fly back to Palermo/Trapani, then transfer east through olive groves and citrus orchards to the Etna wine country. Check in to Monaci delle Terre Nere, a volcanic-stone estate with vineyards, sauna, and pool. Evening walk among the vines before dinner sourced from the farm’s own gardens.
Day 9. Etna & Alcantara Gorges
Guided excursion on Mount Etna: black lava fields, smoking vents, and sweeping views to the Ionian Sea. Descend in the afternoon for a cold-water plunge in the Alcantara Gorges, basalt canyons carved by ancient flows. Return to your estate for a massage or quiet sauna.
Day 10. Taormina – Theatre & Coast
A leisurely day in Taormina. Visit the Greek Theatre for its extraordinary coastal views, browse boutiques, or take the cable car down to Isola Bella for swims. Afternoon at leisure for spa rituals at your hotel, then a farewell dinner in town.
Alternative option: For a more Baroque focus, replace Taormina with Noto & Ortigia (Siracusa). Here, limestone palaces, piazzas, and seaside pools combine for an atmospheric finale.
Day 11. Departure from Catania
Private transfer to Catania Airport. Leave Sicily with volcanic warmth in your shoulders, salt on your skin, and memories of an island where wellness flows as freely as history.
