Osaka (3) → Kinosaki Onsen (2) → Kyoto (3)
From neon cityscapes to tranquil mountain baths — this immersive Kansai itinerary blends Japan’s urban delights with timeless onsen culture. Ideal for those seeking a restorative rhythm, steeped in local bathing traditions
Osaka
Osaka hums with an energy that feels more playful than polished — a city where neon signs flicker over canal-side streets, and the air smells of sizzling yakitori skewers and takoyaki octopus balls. Locals laugh loudly in izakaya pubs, comedians hold court in theatres, and food is celebrated with the same seriousness other cities reserve for temples. Beneath its big-city bustle, Osaka is a place of warmth and welcome, where the phrase kuidaore — “eat until you drop” — is both a motto and an invitation.
Kinosaki Onsen
It is said that when the Japanese dream, they dream of Kinosaki — a town of willow-lined canals, wooden bridges, and lanterns glowing in the dusk. Guests wander the streets in colourful yukata robes as they drift from one bathhouse to the next. Each of the seven public onsen bathhouses has its own soul, from outdoor rock pools to cedar-lined halls, creating a ritual that feels timeless, intimate, and profoundly Japanese.
Kyoto
There's no place like Kyoto. Kyoto whispers of another Japan — one of hushed temple gardens, centuries-old teahouses, and narrow alleys where lanterns glow at dusk. In spring, cherry blossoms spill over riversides; in autumn, fiery maples frame wooden shrines. The city balances grandeur and intimacy: golden pavilions reflected in still ponds, and tiny ramen counters tucked behind sliding doors. Walk through Gion at twilight and you might glimpse a geiko on her way to an evening appointment, a fleeting reminder that Kyoto’s traditions are not relics, but a living, breathing culture.
Day 1 – Arrival in Osaka
Arrive in Osaka and ease into the city’s rhythm with a stroll through neon-lit Dotonbori. Snack your way through street food stalls, then head back to your hotel to soak off the journey in a rooftop hot spring bath with skyline views.
Day 2 – Osaka
Spend the day at Spa World, Osaka’s iconic multi-floor bathing complex, where you can unwind in themed baths inspired by cultures from around the world. Afterward, wander the retro streets of Shinsekai and try kushikatsu skewers under the glow of Tsutenkaku Tower.
Day 3 – Osaka
Choose your pace—climb Osaka Castle, browse the buzzing food halls of Kuromon Market, or take it slow with a morning bath and a matcha break in Namba. It’s your last evening in Osaka, so savour the city's energy before tomorrow’s shift into stillness.
Day 4 – Osaka → Kinosaki Onsen
Take the train to Kinosaki Onsen and step into a slower world of yukata robes, willow-lined canals, and lantern-lit streets. After checking into a traditional ryokan, begin your bathhouse hopping—there are seven public baths to discover, each with its own charm.
Day 5 – Kinosaki Onsen
Let the rituals of onsen life set your pace. Wander from bath to bath, stopping for fresh seafood, soft-boiled onsen eggs, and quiet moments on riverside benches. If you're feeling indulgent, book a massage or reserve a private bath at your ryokan.
Day 6 – Kinosaki Onsen → Kyoto
Travel to Kyoto and settle into a hot spring hotel near Kyoto Station. Spend the afternoon in Arashiyama, where you can walk through the bamboo grove, visit Tenryu-ji Temple, and bathe your feet in an ashiyu footbath before returning for an evening soak.
Day 7 – Kyoto
Take a day trip into the forested hills north of the city. Ride the train to Kibune, hike over the pass to Kurama, and soak in the open-air baths of Kurama Onsen, surrounded by cedar trees. Back in Kyoto, have dinner in Gion or catch a glimpse of geiko on an evening stroll.
Day 8 – Kyoto
Visit some of Kyoto’s most beloved sights—Fushimi Inari’s endless red gates, the golden reflection of Kinkaku-ji, or the peaceful grounds of Nanzen-ji. As your journey winds down, enjoy one final bath under the stars at your hotel or a local sentō with vintage charm.
Day 9 – Kyoto
Take a slow morning for a final Kyoto café or last-minute gift shopping before heading to the airport—or onward to your next destination.
